The Rock Shares His Biggest Challenge in Training for Another WrestleMania
Back in April, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson returned to the wrestling ring for the first time in 11 years. But, he says it's not as easy as it once was.
To prepare for his return, Johnson went to training camp for WrestleMania, which was around nine weeks long.
“It’s incredibly hard,” Johnson recently told People. “The training becomes really extensive, and the training camp becomes extensive."
He also recounts the training camp being really fast, and how he was fortunate to be able to get through all of it.
Johnson documented his journey to WrestleMania across his social media platforms. One of his posts shared an intense, uncut leg day workout. If you want to try the workout yourself, featuring iso-lateral leg press
Despite how challenging he recalls it being on his now 52-year-old body, he and teammate Roman Reign dominated their competition. The duo took on Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins back on April 1, whom Johnson describes as being "great dance partners."
"Roman Reigns and The Rock mercilessly whipped Rhodes and Rollins with a belt," WWE reported after the matchup.
Johnson isn't one to back down from a challenge. Before closing out the year filming the live-action Moana, he went through another seven-week training camp for his next movie role. However, this training camp looks a bit different.
"This training camp now will consist of MMA fighting in the cage. So, I've gone from the pro wrestling ring to the MMA cage, and it's in preparation for my next movie, The Smashing Machine," Johnson shared in a video shared to his YouTube channel.
In the film, set to release in 2025, Johnson plays the role of former MMA fighter and professional wrestler, Mark Kerr—a role he takes very seriously.
"I come into this project with the ultimate level of respect and reverence to that [MMA] world and I just want to be prepared," he says.
He also kept fans updated throughout his training journey, sharing videos in different parts on his Instagram, calling the experience humbling, intense, and motivating.
