To play tribute to one of the greatest and most celebrated players in New York Yankees history, Jordan Brand is honoring Derek Jeter with an ad that's set to run before his first at-bat in his final Major League Baseball All-Star Game on Tuesday.
The ad, titled “RE2PECT,” shows athletes and popular celebrities tipping their caps (Yankees caps, of course) to The Captain, Jordan Brand’s longest-tenured athlete other than Michael Jordan. Jeter was the brand’s first endorsed baseball athlete when he signed in 1999. The ad's list of notables includes Phil Jackson, Carmelo Anthony, Joe Torre, Andy Pettite, Spike Lee, Tiger Woods, Jay-Z, and Billy Crystal. Even a group of salty Boston Red Sox and a few New York Mets, whose faces are hilariously video-distorted, tip their brims to honor Jeter.
Jeter, at age 40, announced that he would retire at the conclusion of this season, his twentieth in the league. With 12 signature cleats, Jeter has the most signature shoes of any Jordan Brand athlete besides Jordan. Jeter has long been known as a ambassador of baseball and one of the most respected professionals in the sport.
He helped lead the Yankees to five World Series titles in his career. He is a 13-time All-Star with a .351 postseason batting average, five Gold Gloves, a World Series MVP, and a Rookie of the Year award.
By the end of this 90-second spot, we bet you’ll find yourself tipping your own cap to The Captain.
