You may not have a podium and the national stage that NBA Most Valuable Player Kevin Durant had when he famously gave his mom probably the biggest public shoutout in sports history. But you can certainly take some tips from the Oklahoma City star when making your mom feel special. How about remembering a special moment in your life when Mom made you the man you are today?
"One of the best memories I have is when we moved into our first apartment - no bed, no furniture," Durant said. "And we just all sat in the living room and just hugged each other. Because we thought we had made it. When something good happens to you, I don't know about you guys, but I tend to look back to what brought me here."
Take a day to remind your mother that you acknowledge what she sacrificed. And that you appreciate it.
"You made us believe," Durant said as he looked down toward his mother, Wanda. "You kept us off the street. You put clothes on our backs, food on the table. When you didn't eat, you made sure we ate. You went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us. You're the real MVP."
And that's how you say Happy Mother's Day.
