The hype is real.
Even if you think the matchup between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is just a cash grab or blown-out entertainment spectacle, there’s no doubt this is the fight that fans want to see.
On July 13, more than 13,000 people packed into the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, for the third day of the Mayweather-McGregor press tour, and things got personal. Both fighters have been flashy during the press tour, with McGregor wearing a tailored suit in Los Angeles and then a mink coat in Brooklyn, while Mayweather showed off his badass diamond-encrusted Hublot watch in Toronto.
Here's a quick look at how it was in the press room:
The lead-up to the official fight announcement was rife with trash talk between the two stars, but tensions in Brooklyn reached an all-time high.
“These are two of the best trash-talkers in all of sports,” UFC president Dana White said to Men’s Fitness. “In sports, some guys have it, most don't. These guys naturally have it. Conor's belief in himself is unbelievable—[it's] more than anyone I've ever worked with in my career.”
“Tempers are flaring, it’s getting heated,” Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza told Men’s Fitness. “This stuff is off the cuff. There’s a level of disrespect and animosity between the two guys. They never even met face-to-face until the first business meeting. Now, it’s getting more personal.”
