Well, if your barber totally butchers your hair, that will be the first indication that he’s not up to the task. But how can you spot a fraud before that happens? That’s tougher, but not impossible.
When you’re walking into any barber shop, take a look at the people who are at the cash register or coming out of the chairs. Does everyone’s hair look the same? Does it feel just a little too Full Metal Jacket? If you see a range of dos that don’t look severely cut, however, you’re probably fine.
Then look at the barber. Does he seem hung over or have bloodshot eyes? Is he talking a million miles a minute? Is his workstation a mess, with combs and hair everywhere? Ultimately, if he doesn’t give a shit about what his area looks like, then all he wants is your dinero.
The bottom line: If he doesn’t make you feel welcome, just get out. There are plenty of us out here who do care.
