We recently sat down with the former pro wrestler and set the record straight on when to continue training when you’re hurt and when you’re better off skipping a gym session and scheduling an appointment with your doctor instead. Generally speaking, you can train through a mild injury—lifting weights helps pump blood to the sore spot and can help begin the healing process. But if a ligament is torn or detached, it’s not going to heal itself, and you’ll need to suck it up and go get an x-ray or MRI.
