Let's have a show of hands. Is your ring finger longer than your index finger? If so, you are predisposed to promiscuity; if not, you are hard-wired for monogamy.
A University of Oxford study found that 53 percent of women and 43 percent of men are more inclined to be faithful, while 57 percent of men and 47 percent of women are more inclined to cheat, phys.org reports.
To get these results, researchers compared findings from a questionnaire on sexual habits, completed by 585 American and British volunteers who were an average age of 25 years old. The scientists used something called “2D:4D” (this is where your fingers come into play).
For this portion of the study, 1,314 British men and women volunteered their hands. Essentially, the 2D:4D ratio is based off the premise that the longer your ring finger is, the more likely you were exposed to a high concentration of testosterone in the womb. High testosterone levels have been linked to a higher likelihood of promiscuity.
But don’t go dumping your girlfriend because she doesn’t have the optimal ratio, and don’t think this is an excuse for your inexorable infidelities. Human behavior and sexual relationships are reliant on many different things. And odds are the womb won't come close to the damage your parents did to your psyche as a kid.
